Notes on the Assignment of Copyright

In the following, "the publisher" refers to Crossings (Dublin) and Trinity College Dublin, and "the author" to all authors of the work in question.

  1. In assigning copyright, the author retains his/her personal right to re-use the material in future collections of his/her own work without fee to the publisher. Acknowledgement of prior publication is the only requirement in such cases.
  2. The author retains the right to make digital or hard copies of part or all of the work for personal or classroom use without fee, provided that copies are not made or distributed for profit or direct commercial advantage, and that copies show acknowledgement on the first page or initial screen of a display.
  3. Republication not covered by sections 1 and 2 requires the written consent of the publisher. This will normally be given without fee and as a matter of routine with the only restriction that acknowledgement of prior publication is given.
  4. The publisher will not permit third parties to republish material without the author's consent (which is assumed to have been given if no response has been received from him/her within thirty days after writing to the last known address).
  5. The publisher reserves the right to maintain the material online in perpetuity and to reproduce the material in any medium (e.g., digital or print).
  6. Should the copyright be held by someone other than the author, the publisher requires that assignment be made by the copyright owner. Correspondence relating to permissions will nevertheless be conducted with the author, who is presumed to be authorised by the copyright owner to deal with such questions on his/her behalf.
